The Message
Worship begins by correcting the scale of our vision. When God becomes small in our thinking, ordinary troubles become enormous; when His holiness, mercy, wisdom and greatness become clear, trouble is still real, but it is no longer the largest thing in the room.
The power of worship is that it turns the heart towards God Himself. Isaiah did not begin by discussing his circumstances. He saw the Lord, heard heaven, and then understood himself differently. This is why worship is more than singing: it is the deliberate recognition of the One before whom our whole life stands. Scripture says, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. (Psalm 145:3)” Praise gives language to that greatness and teaches the soul to stop measuring God by the size of a problem.
When you worship, you are not informing God that He is great; you are allowing your own heart to remember it. This changes the way you approach learning, work, money, family, health, plans and uncertainty. A person who sees God as wise can ask for wisdom without shame. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally. (James 1:5)” A person who sees God as faithful can continue when results are slow. “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)” Worship therefore becomes an inner re-ordering. It does not deny facts; it places facts under the greater fact of God's character.
David could face Goliath because he measured the giant against God rather than measuring God against the giant. “The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. (1 Samuel 17:37)”
Worship teaches the same spiritual mathematics. Your resources may be limited, your knowledge may be incomplete and your strength may fluctuate, but the character of God does not fluctuate. You study because wisdom is valuable. You work because stewardship matters. You care for your body because it belongs to God. You build relationships with honesty because God is truth.
